Co. Galway · The wider Spudies world
Galway Spudie
The Spanish Arch is a doorway. Ships came through it from Spain carrying wine and stories, and it opens onto Galway — the city of buskers, street theatre, music sessions and festival parades. Galway Spudie wears that arch as his antenna, so every signal passes through it, and he decides what comes out the other side. He is obsessed with photography because he thinks every window is already a frame: two people can look through the same one and notice completely different worlds. His favourite game is turning those shots into Guess Where? mysteries. He catches the noise of consuming — the endless scroll of other people making things — and retunes it into the itch to make something yourself.
"Now make something."
The Spanish Arch
- Landmark antenna
- The Spanish Arch
- Magic
- Arch Echo
- Galway catches the signal of endless consuming — watching other people's art, cooking, travel and lives — at the arch and retunes it into the itch to make something yourself: a song, a drawing, a terrible poem, a cake that collapses. He champions creative minds and different ways of thinking, and celebrates inclusion and different minds — recognising that different minds notice, process and create differently, and that those differences are strengths worth understanding and celebrating.
- Cause
- Creativity & different minds — celebrating different minds, original ideas and the courage to make instead of just watch.
- Personality
- A busker and photographer at heart. Theatrical, always humming, forever framing scenes with his wings, starts six projects before lunch and finishes maybe one — and is completely unbothered by that. He turns window views into Guess Where? photo games, believes badly made is better than never made, and is the Spudie most likely to get Mayo into trouble.
- Human ally
- Sorcha
- Make-Spark
His signal is an open arch — every signal passes through it, and Galway decides what comes out the other side. Mayo says 'look up', and Galway says 'now make something'.
Connections
- Mayo — 'look up' meets 'now make something'
